I'm glad you asked. Trauma Center is a cult hit videogame (now a videogame series, I suppose) designed by Atlus. The first game, "Trauma Center: Under the Knife" (entitled "Caduceus: Surgical Operation" in Japan) was released for the Nintendo DS in 2005 and quickly became a sleeper hit and instant cult classic among players all over the world. Now, Under the Knife has been updated and remade for the new Nintendo Wii, in the form of "Trauma Center: Second Opinion" (or "Caduceus Z" in Japan). The remake sports upgraded, stylized graphics, redone character portraits, new tools, a whole new final chapter, and a handful of new missions interspersed that put you in the shoes of a new surgeon, Dr. Nozomi Weaver, many of which make use of the Wii remote's unique functionality. The mission "An Explosive Patient" has also been completely reworked to incorporate some of the Wii remote's unique features. In typical Atlus fashion, both the original game and Second Opinion have seen supply issues arise, as demand for the games exceeds the number of copies Atlus has produced. Under the Knife saw a reprint in 2006 due to demand, and Second Opinion already seems fairly difficult to find right out of the gate. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What's New to Second Opinion? [0.02] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I glossed over this in the previous section, but now let's go into specifics: * A new playable character, Dr. Nozomi Weaver. She also has the Healing Touch. * A completely new Chapter 6, containing a so-called "eighth GUILT." * New tools and items: > Defibrillator > Penlight > Camera flash * Reworked functionality for some existing tools: > Membranes no longer need to be massaged (as there is no Hand tool). > Drain only needs to be held in place to be used. > Syringe does not need to be "drawn up," only held in place. > The defibrillator is now used in place of "heart massages." > There is no Healing Touch tool to select -- simply hold Z and B and draw the star at any time. * Reworked missions: > An Explosive Patient is completely redone. > All of Chapter 6 is completely replaced. > A few missions have had their titles retranslated or changed. * New, even harder X missions. How they made them harder than the DS version's is beyond me. * Three difficulty settings, selectable for each operation (Easy, Normal, Hard). The X Missions have their own difficulty level entitled "Extreme." * Able to replay any mission at any time, on any difficulty of your choosing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Controls [0.03] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trauma Center: Second Opinion makes use of the so-called "Nunchuk Style," which means that you hold the Wii remote in one hand (usually the right) and the Nunchuk in your other (usually the left). To switch to a tool, you simply point the Nunchuk's analog stick in one of the eight directions. How cool is that? No more hunting and pecking on the touch screen. Antibiotic Gel * Forceps | Syringe * | * \ | / \ | / \|/ Scalpel *-------O-------* Suture /|\ / | \ / | \ * | * Ultrasound | Drain / Magnifier * Laser This makes some of the later missions far easier, in my opinion. Thanks to this control setup, you can switch between Ultrasound -> Scalpel -> Laser -> Gel faster than you can say "dead Kyriaki." For using the actual tools, you use the Wii remote on the screen like a laser pointer. In fact, the in-game pointer reticule seems to be designed to look like a laser pointer. Anyway, you move the pointer over whatever you want to use your tool on and you just press the appropriate button. For control specifics for each tool, read the next section, "Tools/Items." Finally, you can press the - (Minus) key on your Wii remote to auto-skip text in cutscenes or in an operation. Helpful when you keep having to retry an operation preceded by a lengthy cutscene! You'll know this is activated because the word "Skip" will appear in the lower-right corner of the screen. Press - again to return dialogue to normal mode. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tools/Items [0.04] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's go over the tools and items in the game, along with what they're used for and how you operate them. * Antibiotic Gel * > Use: instantly heal small cuts, sterilize synthetic membranes, sterilize sutures, raise vitals slightly, repel some strains of GUILT > Control: point at the area you want to gel and press either A or B. * Forceps * > Use: extract items buried in tissue, pick up other small items, transport objects to/from trays, pinch large lacerations closed > Control: point at the object that you want to grab with the forceps, then press both A and B at the same time (like you're squeezing on a pair of forceps, right?). To pull a laceration closed, use the forceps on one side of the laceration and drag the pointer over to the other side. * Scalpel * > Use: make incisions, excise tumors and other objects, damage some strains of GUILT > Control: point at the object that you want to cut and press either A or B. To cut along a line, just hold down the button and move your pointer along the line. * Ultrasound * > Use: detect objects hidden below the surface of an organ > Control: point at the area that you want to scan and press either A or B. * Magnifier * > Use: zoom in on an area to get a closer look > Control: point at the area that you want to zoom in on and press either A or B. * Laser * > Use: burn away polyps, stun/damage some strains of GUILT > Control: point at the area that you want to pew-pew and press either A or B. * Drain * > Use: drain various fluids from various objects > Control: point at the fluid that you want to drain and hold either A or B until "OK" appears. * Suture * > Use: stitch large lacerations or incisions closed > Control: hold either A or B, then draw a zig-zag pattern across the part that you want to suture. If your zig-zag isn't good enough, you'll have to do it again. * Syringe * > Use: inject stabilizer into patient to raise vitals, inject anti- inflammatory into aneurysms, inject serums to weaken/destroy some strains of GUILT > Control: first, point at the vial that you want to grab fluid out of, then hold A or B to fill up the syringe. Then, point to the area that you want to inject into and hold A or B once more, keeping the syringe steady as it empties. * Defibrillator * > Use: brought up automatically on the screen when your patient suffers cardiac arrest -- use it to restart their heart! > Control: first, push both the Wii remote and the Nunchuk towards the screen to press the defibrillator pads onto the patient's chest. Then, press Z and B simultaneously when the voltage meter is in the small "window" on the right-hand side of the gauge. It may take a few tries, and timing is everything! * Healing Touch * > Use: use superhuman concentration and focus to slow down time temporarily. You can normally only use the Healing Touch once per operation. > Control: hold down Z and B, then draw a star shape on the screen in the following pattern: 2 4 5 1 3 6 * Bandages * > Use: bandage a sutured incision; used at the end of every operation > Control: when your have sutured your original incision, gel the incision and then pick up the roll of bandages from the tray with A or B. Point at one end of the incision, hold A or B, and then point at the other end to stretch the bandage across. Release A or B with the bandage laid over the sutures and the bandage will be placed. * Synthetic Membrane * > Use: seal a hole left behind by an excised tumor > Control: after the tumor is excised, place the membrane on the hole with your forceps and then apply gel on top of the membrane. You don't have to massage the membrane in separately like in Under the Knife -- that's now part of the gelling process. * Penlight * > Use: provide light during low-light conditions > Control: select the penlight on the side of the screen with A or B (just as you would a roll of bandages) and position the pointer. Press A or B to lock the light in place. * Camera Flash * > Use: provide (temporary) light during low-light conditions > Control: press A or B on the camera icon to make the camera flash. Quick, fix up the patient before the light fades away! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gameplay Overview [0.05] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The basic flow of gameplay in Trauma Center divides the action into two phases: cutscenes and operations. You will generally get a cutscene between each operation, but at other times you may get multiple cutscenes (or operations) in a row. The cutscenes advance the story and help explain what your next operation is all about, or what the results of your previous operation were. They also help to explain the game's story, such as what the heck this wacky GUILT thing is anyway. When an operation starts, you'll get a quick briefing on the patient's condition and what your objectives are for the operation. These objectives will often be painfully obvious (i.e., destroy the GUILT) but other times they can help to summarize a potentially confusing string of dialogue into something meaningful. During an operation, you have to accomplish all of your objectives, and finish the operation (this usually includes suturing your original incision, gelling it, and placing a bandage) before the timer expires. You'll have to balance your use of tools, though -- as you use a tool, its icon color will turn yellow, then red, and it will eventually break for a short while, at which point it will become unusable until its icon returns to normal. After the operation, you'll receive a score and rank based on your performance. The highest rank is S: Master Surgeon. On Hard difficulty there is an even higher XS rank that can be obtained. ================================================================================ + + + + + W A L K T H R O U G H + + + + + =====================The patient's life is in your hands!======================= -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 1-1: Standard Procedure [1.01] Overview: Lacerations and foreign objects in upper right brachium. Requires removal of the foreign objects and suturing of any wounds. Objectives: * Suture any lacerations. * Extract fragments of glass from underneath the patient's skin. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome, Dr. Stiles. The first procedure isn't anything special, but if you're new to Trauma Center then it could pose a mild challenge, so try your best. Even if you were a pro with the DS version, this is a good mission to get comfortable with the Wii controls on. You'll see some glass stuck in the patient, as well as some lacerations. Select the forceps and pull the glass out -- pull it out the same direction it went in, and pull it ALL THE WAY OUT, until the tip clears the wound, otherwise you'll hurt the patient and the glass will stick back in. Once you've managed that, drop the glass in the extraction tray to your right. For the lacerations, use your suture tool to stitch the wounds closed. Then you'll have to make an incision in the patient's arm and pull some more glass out, just like before. When you're done, suture up your incision, apply some gel until you see "OK," and then roll a bandage on. Get used to this -- you'll need to do the same three-step procedure in just about every operation in the game. In general, just listen to what Mary tells you and do what she says. No sweat. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 1-2: Learning the Ropes [1.02] Overview: Tumor confirmed at the surface of the stomach. It should be removed before it becomes malignant. Objectives: * Excise and remove the tumor in the patient's distal stomach. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this operation, you'll learn a procedure that you'll use a few more times, so try to memorize it. Dr. Kasal calls it the "Powell method," and it is as follows: 1. Use the ultrasound to find a tumor under the surface of the organ. 2. Once a tumor is visible, use your scalpel to cut down the center of it. 3. Use the drain to drain the fluid from inside the tumor. 4. Use your scalpel around the outside of the tumor, tracing the yellow dots. 5. Extract the tumor with your forceps and drop it in the tray. 6. Take a synthetic membrane from the tray to your left and put it on the hole. 7. Rub some gel on the membrane until "OK" appears. And that's it. Mary will help you if you have trouble remembering. There's not much here that should give you any trouble. Good luck! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 1-3: A Farewell [1.03] Overview: Multiple tumors confirmed in the pancreas. They may lead to a loss of stamina, so immediate removal is highly recommended. Objectives: * Excise and remove all tumors from the patient's pancreas. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Same as before, only there are multiple tumors to extract. Put your knowledge of the Powell method to use here! Again, Mary is here to give you a helpful reminder if you need it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 1-5: Singing the Blues [1.05] Overview: Polyp clusters confirmed in the trachea. Due to internal hemorrhaging, a hemostatic laser procedure is necessary. Objectives: * Drain the overflowing blood. * Locate the source of the patient's distress. * Use the laser to remove it. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is probably the first mission that you might have a risk of losing your patient on. However, the only way that would really happen on this operation would be if you let the burn marks bleed into infinity and never gel them. In any case, zoom in on the first cluster and switch to your drain. Suck up the blood, then laser off the polyps. Once you've burned off a few, switch over to the gel and smear some across the burn marks. You can wait until you've gotten all of the polyps to put on any gel, but bleeding could start and it's a little safer to gel more frequently. If you're going for the quickest possible clear, though, feel free to burn everything off at once. Afterwards, zoom out and there will be another cluster. Deal with that one in the exact same way. After that, there will be a couple more. More of the same -- if the patient's vitals get too low, inject some stabilizer (the green vial) to raise his vitals. And that's that! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 1-6: A Real Doctor [1.06] Overview: Multiple tumors confirmed in the small intestine, resulting in several other inflammations. Immediate removal is required. Objectives: * Treat the inflamed epithelium in his small intestine. * Excise and remove all tumors in the area. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is just like "A Farewell," except that before you start excising the tumors, you will have to inject some anti-inflammatory into the little purple dots all over the place. Once those are all gone, ultrasound and remove the tumors just like you've done so many times before. Use the stabilizer if you need it, but you really shouldn't have any trouble with vitals for this one. After you're finished with the tumors, Angie will ask you to use the ultrasound to ping around looking for anything unusual, but you won't see anything, so just suture, gel, bandage, and you're done. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 1-8: Life or Death [1.08] Overview: Patient suffered cardiac arrest as a result of a car accident. Multiple lacerations of the epithelium in the abdomen. Objectives: ...F-First we need a pulse...We have to get a pulse. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh boy, a new tool! This mission lets you play with the defibrillator to jump- start the patient's heart. "Push" the remote and Nunchuk towards the screen to press the defibrillator pads onto the patient, then press Z and B at the proper time. It may take a few tries, but that's okay. Once his heart is restarted, get to work on the glass shards. Just like before -- pull them out in the same direction as they went in. If his heart stops again, use the defibrillator the same as you did the first time. After you finish with the glass, a large gash will open and a *HUGE* piece of glass will pop out of it. Pull it out -carefully- and then place it in the tray. Things will go downhill (again) and you'll see a star being drawn on the screen, while time seems to slow down temporarily. Hurry and suture that wound! This will be explained soon, don't worry. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode Z-1: From Overseas [Z.01] Overview: Comminuted fracture in patient's radius bone. There also seems to be internal hemorrhaging. Treat bleeding, then rebuild the broken bone. Objectives: * Collect fragments of his radius and ulna. * Set the radius properly for healing. * Return the fragments to their original location and rebuild the patient's radius and ulna. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a fun mission designed specifically for Second Opinion that uses the Wii remote. First, collect all of the bone fragments using your forceps. Once you have them all, pull the radius (the uppermost bone, the one that's sticking out kind of diagonally) downwards into alignment with the other bones. Once that's done, you can start reconstructing the bone. Pick up a bone fragment, and find where it fits by rotating it around with the Wii remote (twist your wrist like you're opening a door). Once you find where it lines up, let go of the fragment and it should drop into place. If it doesn't work, try it again. If it still doesn't go, it's possible that the piece doesn't quite fit into that spot, or you're not lining it up quite right. Once you have all of the pieces set, you'll notice that you're still missing one. Use the ultrasound to find it, then put it in place. Rub some gel on the bones to bond them (I wish it were this easy in real life!) and then you're basically done. Congratulations! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 2-1: Dormant Ability [2.01] Overview: Multiple thrombi present due to waste blockage. Immediate removal is required to prevent further complications. Objectives: * Remove all thrombi in the vessels. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a mission that will get you practicing your rapid-fire tool switching. To take out a single thrombus, you'll need to do the following: * Pinch the thrombus in place with your forceps. * Cut open the tissue with your scalpel. * Drain the cut with the drain (this will suck up the thrombus with it). * Gel the cut. At a certain point, things will start to go crazy as they're apt to do in the Trauma Center universe. You'll see time slow down again, and use that chance to snatch up all of the thrombi that you can possibly manage. Start from the upper-right and work your way backwards -- it's always smarter to go after the ones that are just about to reach the spleen, since those will cause your vitals to drop. You shouldn't have too much trouble, but if you do, inject some stabilizer and keep moving. Speed is essential here! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 2-3: Striving for Asclepius [2.03] Overview: Personal training exercise. Gain focus and practice superhuman concentration for self-betterment. Objectives: * Master the Healing Touch. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now you finally get to control the Healing Touch. Once per operation, you will be able to use this technique to slow down time temporarily to buy you precious time to perform multiple tasks or raise vitals just as things start to get out of hand. To complete this mission, you must successfully pull off the Healing Touch move several times. To perform it, hold down Z and B and then draw a star on the screen, in the following pattern: 2 4 5 1 3 6 That is, start in the lower-left, draw to the top, then lower-right, then upper- left, then upper-right, then back to the lower-left where you started. If it looks enough like a star (and you only used five lines), the Healing Touch will activate. Well, not in this mission, but this is just for practice. If you're having trouble drawing the star, make sure that you don't draw any "extra" lines. I oftentimes see that I draw a small line in the lower-right before I actually begin drawing the star, and the game seems to only recognize the first five lines you draw, making it impossible for me to complete the star. Work on it, practice, and keep your wrist steady! Practice makes perfect, and you've got to know it well enough to do it under stress (which is almost always when you'll be using it). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 2-4: Awakening [2.04] Overview: Multiple aneurysms have formed on the surface of the large intestine. Requires sedative treatment and suturing of affected vessels. Objectives: * Treat the aneurysms on the outer membrane of the patient's large intestine. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This one was a pain on the DS, but it's a bit more manageable here. You need to zoom in on the aneurysm, inject the brown serum (anti-inflammatory) to shrink them down, and then cut them out with your scalpel. Once they're cut, you can extract them. After that, drain the cut, pull one end of the vessel over to the other with your forceps, and then suture the point where they connect. It seems like a lot, but once again being able to switch tools with your free hand certainly helps make this a lot easier to manage. If you see any aneurysms growing large while you're working, drop everything and inject some anti-inflammatory into them to keep them from bursting. A single bursting aneurysm will lower your vitals by a decent chunk -- and multiple bursts at once will almost certainly kill your patient, or at least put them on the edge of death. To make things a little more manageable, try shrinking all of the aneurysms on your screen at once, then cutting them all, then extracting them all. That way, you won't have to worry about any of them bursting while you're working on one! In any case, working quickly is the key here. But then again, that should go without saying by this point. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 2-6: Just Let Me Die [2.06] Overview: Several bleeding lacerations found in the right lung. Patient's vitals are unstable, necessitating extreme caution. Objectives: * Treat all injuries within the thoracic cavity. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This one is pretty straightforward -- or dare I say it -- easy. Just deal with the lacerations. Pinch and suture the gaping one, and just suture the regular ones. Gel any little ones. Not much to worry about here, really. What's that? You want more excitement? Okay, you've got it. See you in the next operation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 2-9: Please Let Me Live [2.09] Overview: Hemorrhaging lacerations have re-formed in the right lung. Please conduct an investigation while performing hemostatic treatment. Objectives: * Treat any bleeding injuries within the thoracic cavity. * Discover the source of the lacerations. GUILT Faced: Kyriaki -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's the same girl as last time, but her wounds are back. What's going on? Open her up and treat the wounds just like before. However, this time I would highly advise leaving one wound open, pumping her vitals to maximum, and then closing the last wound. Why? From this point on in the game, almost every operation will have multiple "phases," and the game will move on to the next phase once you heal all of a set of wounds. So, if you leave one open and then raise your vitals to maximum, you ensure that you'll begin the next phase with as high of vitals as possible. This quickly becomes *essential* to survival. So, pump her vitals and then suture the last wound. Suddenly, another wound forms. What the...?! Use your ultrasound and you'll see a little blue thing swimming around inside her lung. Get a good look. This is the first strain of GUILT, the terrorist-manufactured virus that you'll be dealing with primarily for the rest of the game. This particular one is called Kyriaki, and it attacks by swimming around and creating lacerations in its wake. Let's get down to business. First, locate the Kyriaki with your ultrasound, then switch to the scalpel and cut directly on top of it. If your aim is true, the Kyriaki will be exposed and begin swimming around on top of the organ, at which point you can shoot it with the laser. Keep lasering it until it stops moving and "Defeat" appears on the screen. Congratulations, you've killed it! Oh wait, there's more. Kill any more Kyriaki that appear, and then once you've finished up with those you'll see three big lacerations appear in the shape of an asterisk. Ping around with the ultrasound and you'll see one big freaking Kyriaki. This is a mature specimen. Treat it the same way, only that after you laser it, it will burrow back under the surface and you'll have to cut it out again. Do this a few times and it, too, will die. Congratulations! As a general rule of thumb, unless the patient's vitals get *really* out of hand, I would recommend ignoring the lacerations that the Kyriaki make, and just focusing on destroying the little buggers. Once they're dead, you'll have plenty of time to suture all of the wounds. This won't always be the case in later missions where you have lots of stuff going on and the patient's vitals just can't take it, but if it's just Kyriaki all by itself then you may be safe just leaving the lacerations alone until they're all dead. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 2-11: For the Greater Good [2.11] Overview: Mitral prolapse and regurgitation. Since complications may arise, it is necessary to replace the valve with a synthetic one. Objectives: * Replace a valve in her heart with a synthetic one. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not a whole lot to say here -- follow Angie's directions and use the defibrillator when necessary. It can be a little tricky figuring out how you're supposed to suture in the new valve -- best I can tell, just suture directly across the middle of the thing. Anyhow, there's no real strategy here except raising vitals when needed, jump-starting the patient's heart when needed, and doing what Angie says. You can do it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode Z-2: Miracle [Z.02] Overview: Extraction of an unusual tumor present in the large intestine. Patient's vitals may fluctuate abnormally. Objectives: * Extract any tumors in the patient's large intestine. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You'll face a new sort of tumor here, one that can regenerate itself and others. As far as I can tell, the best (only?) way to deal with these things is to take them all out at once, otherwise they'll regenerate each other. Use your scalpel on the three little "legs" of each tumor, then once those are all gone, extract each one. You shouldn't have too much trouble, but you'll have to be on your toes because these guys can regenerate pretty quickly if you move too slow. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 3-2: GUILT [3.02] Overview: Positive Chiral reaction -- Kyriaki bodies detected. Immediate removal is required to prevent further complications. Objectives: * Remove the Kyriaki. GUILT Faced: Kyriaki -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This mission is just a test, and is more or less identical to "Please Let Me Live." Suture the wounds (all but one anyhow), raise vitals to max, and then suture the last wound. Kill the Kyriaki via the ultrasound -> scalpel -> laser method. Rinse and repeat for the mature one. You should have no trouble with this if you beat Please Let Me Live. Use your Healing Touch if you have to but you shouldn't need it -- just keep an eye on those vitals and try to kill the Kyriaki before they make too many lacerations! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 3-4: Something Precious [3.04] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Deftera bodies detected. Complete removal from the stomach and lungs is required. Objectives: * Remove the GUILT from...the patient's stomach and lungs. GUILT Faced: Deftera -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh boy, a new strain of GUILT. These guys look exactly like fantail goldfish, don't ask me why. Maybe someone at Atlus keeps an aquarium? Anyway, as Tyler will tell you, Deftera come in two flavors -- red and blue. If two opposite-color Deftera come into contact with one another, they will begin trying to eat each other, but since they're of equal strength they'll just kind of sit there. When they join together like this, pull out the drain and start sucking away at them. When you see "OK," they'll split up and swim around some more. When they combine again, repeat the process. Eventually they'll die, then the trickier part comes along. After you kill the first two, you'll move to another part of the patient's body where you'll see *two* pairs of Deftera, two red and two blue. The challenge comes in that if a pair of Deftera are combined, they will break apart and Bad Things will happen if another Deftera collides with them. Additionally, you'll also get a vitals drop if two like-colored Deftera collide. So, once an opposite-colored pair of Deftera start eating away at each other, smear some gel around them. This will function as a sort of shield to ward off the other Deftera temporarily while you concentrate on draining the two that are combined. If you have trouble with polyps forming (due to collisions), burn them off and gel the burn marks if necessary, but you might want to save that until the end. It's up to you and it depends on the situation, really. As always, don't be afraid to pump the patient's vitals up a bit if things get hairy. Anyhow, once the Deftera are dead, extract them and place them on the tray. Nice work! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 3-6: An Explosive Patient [3.06] Overview: It's a bomb. Blindly cutting at it would be extremely...bad. Cross your fingers and listen to Dr. Myers. Objectives: * Dismantle the bomb. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This mission is completely redone for Second Opinion, so unfortunately Under the Knife FAQs won't help you here :P First, you'll see four screws. Use your scalpel and twist the Wii remote around like a screwdriver to remove the screws. Beware, they don't all turn in the same direction, and if you mess up three times, the bomb will detonate! Luckily, if you look closely on the panel you'll see some markings that tell you which direction the screws turn. If you make enough mistakes, Cybil will point this out to you, so you can't really miss it. Now, then, once the front panel is off you'll zoom in on the voltage regulator. You'll have to use your forceps to pull out the plugs and reposition them so that the voltage level matches up with the pink line on the gauge. For me, it was the first slot on the left side and the second slot from the bottom on the right side, but I'm not sure if it's the same every time. Anyhow, once you find the right combination you'll move on to the core. Use your laser to shoot off the spinning panels on the core. Be careful not to shoot a flashing panel, or the bomb will go off! The flashing panels move around on a set interval, so it's wise to stop lasering when the panels are just about to move, then resume after you see where they went to. Also, I wouldn't recommend trying to laser panels that are on the top, bottom, or sides of the sphere (that is, ones that aren't directly facing you) because the game may think that you're trying to shoot at a panel that is in front of it, which can detonate the bomb if the panel isn't there. Play it safe and only shoot for panels when they're in plain sight. Finally, the core will be exposed and you'll have to shoot it. However, there will be red spinning things flying around the core, and if you so much as *touch* one of these with your laser, the bomb goes off. So, be -really- careful and be light with your trigger finger. If there's any danger of one of the red parts spinning in front of the core, STOP LASERING and wait for an opening to show up. Don't get greedy and blow yourself up now -- it'd be a pain to do this all over again. Congratulations, you dismantled the bomb! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 3-8: Caduceus on a Plane [3.08] Overview: Edema of the lungs has worsened, causing respiratory failure. Fluid must be drained from the lungs to secure the respiratory tract. Objectives: * Drain pleural fluid from inside the patient's lungs. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First off, kudos to Atlus's translation team for the Snakes On A Plane reference. Anyhow, this mission is easy with one exception -- periodically, the plane will encounter turbulence and you'll have to stop whatever you're doing. I'm serious, too -- using anything, even using the ultrasound, during turbulence will cause lacerations and mess up your patient's vitals. So don't do it! When turbulence comes and the screen starts shaking, just take your fingers off of the A & B buttons. It's safer that way. Between rounds of turbulence, all you have to do is ping around with the ultrasound and find the pockets of fluid. Once you find one (it will show up as a black splotch), slice it open with the scalpel and drain the fluid, then gel the cut. Repeat about a dozen times and then you're done. Just be sure to watch out for the turbulence! Not even the ultrasound is safe during those times, so just be patient. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 3-10: Pandora's Box [3.10] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- unknown infection detected. Extreme care is necessary during treatment. Objectives: * Remove the GUILT. GUILT Faced: Triti -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh boy. Triti is the most pain-in-the-ass GUILT in the game in my opinion, and for all that everyone says that it's easy, I still have problems. Since I still have issues with this type of GUILT, I'll just give you a few key pointers: * Triti will spread in places where there are multiple thorns adjacent to each other, so, try to pull out thorns so that there are gaps between all of them. * If any triangle or segment becomes isolated (separated) from the main "body" of Triti, that segment will grow rapidly, so try to keep everything connected. * The darker-colored triangles cause extra damage to the patient's vitals, so try to excise them quickly if possible. * Back the Triti into a corner so that it can't regenerate as easily. That is, if you're working on its lower-right corner, make sure that it's pushed all the way up into the upper-left corner (so that it can't keep growing in that direction). Other than that, cross your fingers. Every guide out there seems to have some magic winning formula for Triti, but none of them seem to ever work perfectly for me. Good luck, and remember that your Healing Touch is there if you need it, though I would save it for the very end when you're just about done. ----------------------------------------------------- Ryn writes: "A lot of people seem to have trouble with Triti because they don't understand the regeneration pattern. It is basically this: IF THERE ARE TWO THORNS NEXT TO EACH OTHER AND THERE IS FREE SPACE FOR GROWTH IT WILL REGENERATE. This being said, there are two fairly quick and simple ways to dispose of it. 1) You can use your HT and extract every thorn and every membrane all at once (yes is possible I have done it myself), but it requires fast movement and precision. Only for use by very experienced players that somehow still have a hell of a lot of trouble with Triti (like me :D). 2) Like every other strategy in the world, back it into a corner. Don't treat the thorns and membranes like a whole bunch of different things that need to be taken out at random, but rather treat them as diagonal rows of each, with the membrane rows being between the thorn rows, sorta like reading between the lines. This being said, extract thorn rows 1 and 2, extract membrane row 1, rinse and repeat. In the beginning the membranes will almost always regen, making it SEEM like you are getting nowhere, but just stick with the 2 rows - 1 row and eventually the membranes will be so far into the corner that you can extract al the thorns and membranes left without the need of a HT throughout the whole mission. Oh yeah. If a thorn vaporizes it WILL slow you down a bit but just keep your concentration, drain the fumes, and continue extracting." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode Z-3: Pursuit [Z.03] Overview: External trauma and lacerations have occurred. May be an abnormality in patient's abdomen. Visibility is poor; resources are far from ideal. Objectives: * Extract any foreign objects. * Suture any lacerations. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This one is fun. You'll be operating on a car crash victim in the dark. Well, relative dark. You'll have a penlight that you'll need to position (using the pointer and locking it in place with the A button) while you work. Other than the issues with light, this goes exactly like one of the very first missions in the game, so just extract the glass shards and suture the wounds. After a short while, the penlight batteries will die, so you'll use a camera flash instead. Just click the camera flash button, and the screen will light up briefly, then begin to fade. Work as fast as you can, and re-flash the camera whenever you need it. Congratulations, you just totally MacGyvered that operation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 4-2: Race For The Cure [4.02] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Tetarti bodies detected. Extract GUILT to procure antibody samples for analysis. Objectives: * Obtain three different samples to develop a cure. GUILT Faced: Tetarti (immature) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this mission, you'll get to operate on several patients, and you can choose where you get to go. Not that it really matters, but the game gives you the choice anyway. The objective is to find three different specimens of Tetarti, a new strain of GUILT. To do so, you'll have to: * Inject the serum into the GUILT to kill it. * Ultrasound it to find it again, then cut it out and inject some more serum. * Repeat until it dies. * Once it's dead, place it on the tray, cut it open, and then suck out its insides with the drain. Repeat this with as many patients as necessary until Angie tells you that you have all of the samples that you need. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 4-4: Stepping Up [4.04] Overview: Tetarti bodies confirmed in the patient's liver. Inject the newly designed serum to eliminate the GUILT. Objectives: * Kill the GUILT cells in his liver by injecting the correct serums. GUILT Faced: Tetarti (mature) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Tetarti require a different approach than the ones you faced before, but they're not really any harder. In this operation (and all subsequent ones), the Tetarti come in three colors -- green, yellow, and purple. Notice that you have three colors of serum -- green, yellow, and purple. Figured it out yet? First off, there are three diverticula (little tumors, basically) that come in those three colors as well. Inject the serums into the diverticula to take care of them, and then the GUILT comes along. Basically, you need to inject each serum into the matching-color Tetarti. The trick comes in that after the Tetarti appear, they only show their colors for a second before they all turn colorless, so you'll have to memorize which one is which, then inject them all with the correct serum. Repeat this a few times (it shouldn't be too hard), and they'll die. If you inject the wrong one, raise his vitals a bit and take care of any diverticula that may appear. If you miss the GUILT and just jab the needle into the patient's liver, don't worry about it and just raise his vitals if you do too much damage. That's all there is to it! Really, just memorize which one is which color and you've got it in the bag. It's even easier if you have a friend watching so you can both remember the colors. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 4-6: The First Step [4.06] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Pempti bodies detected. Perform a lobectomy and examine the strain for further study. Objectives: * Do everything I tell you to do. GUILT Faced: Pempti -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There's not much to say other than what the objective says -- do whatever Victor says. He'll have you try various things on the Pempti, none of which seem to really work. First you'll try various tools, and then he'll ask you to inject various combinations of serums. Once you've done everything he asks, you can cut out a little piece of the Pempti for Victor to examine. After that's done, close up the patient and let Victor do his research. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 4-7: Medical Research [4.07] Overview: Help create a new nanomachine by figuring out a simple puzzle. How hard could it be? Objectives: * Solve the puzzle. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not much to say here. If you take a long time, you'll get a bunch of amusing quips from all of the other doctors about your mental abilities. It's pretty funny, actually. Here's the solution: * * R R O R O G W O R W G * W G W -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 4-8: The Next Step [4.08] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Pempti bodies found. Lung functions have decreased due to GUILT invasion. New treatment is scheduled for trial. Objectives: * Perform a lobectomy and inject the nanomachine directly. * Then, excise the GUILT and any surrounding tissue. GUILT Faced: Pempti -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have you got what you need? Will you be able to kill the Pempti this time? Let's find out. Inject the nanomachine (the orange serum) into the core of the Pempti a few times. The Pempti will shrink each time you do it. Once the core becomes exposed, pull out your laser and start burning it. It looks dead, but...no! It comes back! Damn. Victor will tell you to try again, so repeat the procedure. This time, you can excise the core after you've lasered it. Still no good! The core replicates itself whenever you damage or remove it. Victor tells you to do it again, but Sidney orders you to stop. Close up the patient and it's time for more puzzles! Throughout this mission, you may see small polyps/tumors formed on the patient's lungs. Laser them off and gel the burn marks if necessary, and keep an eye on his vitals. This should go without saying, though -- but it's important nonetheless. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 4-9: Progress [4.09] Overview: Help create a new device by figuring out another simple puzzle. No sweat, right? Objectives: * Solve the puzzles. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Two puzzles this time. Nothing to say, so let's jump to the solutions for you lazy folks who don't want to figure it out for yourselves: R R R W R P B W R * W R P B * P P W G O O G G O And the second one: Y Y B G Y B O G Y B G Y R O P * O P P R O P R R -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 4-10: Prolonged Struggle [4.10] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Pempti bodies found. Lung condition has dropped to critical. Prototype laser treatment is the only option. Objectives: * Use the nanomachine to lure out the core, just like last time. * Use our new laser to destroy the core as it tries to regenerate tissue. GUILT Faced: Pempti -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally we'll be able to kill this thing, once and for all. Begin as usual -- inject the nanomachine to shrink it, then the core will become exposed. Once the core appears, it will begin attacking by creating mini-cores. The mini-cores come in two varieties: pink and blue. The pink ones, if not killed immediately, will fly to the top of the screen and leave really big lacerations in their wake. These can add up quickly if there are five pink guys flying around, so do whatever you can to make sure that you kill all of the pink ones as soon as they're created! If one or two slip through, it's okay, but all five creating lacerations repeatedly will kill your patient in a heartbeat. On a regular basis, the Pempti will "wash" over the screen and all blue mini- cores that are present at that time will create a bunch of polyps. Burn them away and gel them ASAP, or else the next time that the Pempti "washes" up the screen, all of the polyps will burst and deal damage. Try to at least remove most of them, though leaving a few behind in the interest of saving time probably won't spell the end of the world for you. Between attacks (if your vitals are looking okay), laser the core as much as possible. The mini-cores should always be your top priority (as well as cleaning up any lacerations/polyps that they may leave behind), but whenever you have a spare moment, try to deal some damage to the core. The only way that you'll win this mission is to laser the core a whole lot, so keep at it! Once the core dies, you can close up the patient because that's all there is to it. Congratulations! You've beaten one of the most dangerous GUILT there is. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode Z-4: Transplant [Z.04] Overview: Kidney transplant. Perform anastomosis to slow blood flow, then proceed quickly. Tumors have been confirmed and must be extracted first. Objectives: * Tumor excision. * Transplanting the new kidney. GUILT Faced: (none) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This mission can get out of hand quickly if you're not quick about it. Basically, you need to remove the tumors as you've done before, which shouldn't really be a problem. Once those are taken care of, you need to inject the serum to constrict the patient's veins and then connect the kidney's veins to the patient's. First, constrict the vein (the blue one), cut it open, and then connect the kidney to it, finishing up with a suture. Move quickly, and inject some more serum if the vein gets too large and begins bleeding heavily. Repeat the process with the artery (the red one). Finally, do the same with the green part, though you don't need to inject any serum into this one as it's not a blood vessel. If you have problems with vitals in this mission (which is entirely possible), don't be afraid to use the Healing Touch (that's right, Dr. Weaver has it too), especially on the higher difficulties. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 5-2: Under the Knife [5.02] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Kyriaki bodies detected. Multiple patients are in need of immediate attention. Objectives: * Remove the Kyriaki from as many patients as possible. GUILT Faced: Kyriaki -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is fun, but depends entirely on your ability to act fast and your familiarity with Kyriaki. You have five patients that are all infected with Kyriaki, and it's up to you to save as many of them as possible. In the DS version, as long as you were on the third patient when time expired, you passed the mission, but I don't know if that's still true in this version. In any case, work as fast as you can and try to get through all five patients if possible. Nothing really new to say here -- kill all of the Kyriaki just like you've done multiple times before, and keep an eye on those vitals. Save the lacerations for the end after all of the Kyriaki are dead if you can manage to keep the patient's vitals high enough. Good luck. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 5-3: Shifting GUILT [5.03] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Triti bodies detected. Airborne properties create a high risk of infection. Quick work is advised. Objectives: * Remove the Triti and prevent it from infecting others. GUILT Faced: Triti -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More Triti. Ugh. This mission is largely the same as 3-10: "Pandora's Box," so just follow the pointers that I outlined in that mission (or in the GUILT Strategies section). Good luck -- you may very well need it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 5-4: GUILT Evolves [5.04] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Tetarti bodies detected. This mutation is resistant to serum and much stronger than before. Objectives: * Remove the Tetarti. GUILT Faced: Tetarti -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once again, this is another mission that you've basically done before. This one is a little harder, though -- the Tetarti will take longer to kill and will not show their colors as much. If you have trouble identifying which is which, you can look at the color of the poison clouds that they each emit -- those match up with their serum colors as well. After injecting each of the little buggers several times, they'll give up the ghost. Moving on. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 5-6: Infection [5.06] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Paraskevi bodies detected. Immediate removal is necessary before they can reach the patient's heart. Objectives: * Remove the GUILT. GUILT Faced: Paraskevi -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ah, a new one! This is one to be careful of. Here's the basic facts on our new friend Paraskevi: * There are four "zones" in this operation, the Paraskevi starts out in the intestines and works its way up to the heart. * If the Paraskevi reaches the heart, the patient instantly dies and it's game over, so don't let that happen, okay? * Paraskevi is too big to extract -- you will have to cut it down into many smaller pieces and extract them one by one. Start by cutting it in half, then cutting each of those pieces in half, then those in half, etc. Eventually you will be able to extract the smallest pieces. * You can stun Paraskevi by lasering its tail. This also holds true for individual Paraskevi segments. As far as I know you *must* stun the Paraskevi before you can extract them, but mainly it's important to keep them stunned at all times so that they don't move on to the next zone. That's about it. Stun it, scalpel it, stun both halves, scalpel one of them, stun those pieces, scalpel them, etc. Try to keep as many pieces stunned as possible at all times. If a few pieces escape to the next area, don't sweat it too much, but try not to let anything leave the area. Keeping all of the pieces stunned is key. If you continue to have trouble or just want another persons' viewpoint, there's a reader-submitted strategy in the GUILT strategies section, do a Find for [G.06] to jump straight there. Once you extract all of the pieces, Cybil is saved. Congratulations. I guess this is payback for her helping you dismantle that bomb earlier. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 5-8: A Devil [5.08] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- unknown infection detected. Extreme care is required during the treatment procedure. Objectives: * Remove the GUILT. GUILT Faced: Savato (immature) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't let this mission fool you -- this may be Savato, but these are just the babies. You'll fight the real one next time. There's not a whole lot going on in this mission -- just laser all of the babies that you see. Occasionally, five babies will join together to create a bigger blue bug -- kill these ones ASAP, as they lower your maximum vitals level by quite a bit. Having multiple ones on the screen at once will lower your maximum vitals to 35 or even lower. Eek! Towards the end, tons and tons of little babies will pop out -- do your best to laser them all, and I suppose you could use your Healing Touch if you really wanted to. Make sure that you kill all of the big blue ones as soon as they appear, and raise his vitals if you need to. This is just a warm-up for next time, so don't get too cocky. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 5-9: Death Awaits All [5.09] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- unknown infection detected. Pulse has dropped, so cardiac complications are extremely likely. Objectives: * Defeat the GUILT and save Dr. Blackwell. GUILT Faced: Savato (mature) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is as close to a "boss battle" as you're going to get in this game. It's even got awesome special music! Anyhow, when you get inside the patient you'll see Savato sitting there on his heart, spinning his webs like a spider. Before we go any further, I'm going to say this clearly and obviously: DO NOT USE YOUR HEALING TOUCH. AT ANY POINT. It is not physically possible to win this mission if you use your Healing Touch before you're "supposed" to, so don't use it until I explicitly tell you to. Got it? Don't blame me if you use it and have to do this all over again. So, then. Do what Angie says and try to cut one of the strands of web with your scalpel. What's this? Your scalpel melted. Great! Angie will go to get you a new one, but in the meantime try pestering Savato a bit. The laser works fine for this. Just keep him occupied so he hopefully won't make any more web strands or babies. Once you get your replacement scalpel, cut another strand. Your scalpel will break again (this will happen every time you cut a strand), but it won't take long to get a new one. Just pester Savato or laser any babies that are running around while you wait for a new scalpel, or raise his vitals a bit. Anyhow, keep cutting the web strands, lasering babies, and annoying Savato until all of the web strands are gone. Savato will make a new one -- cut down this one, too. He should then make a third web (argh) -- destroy this one in the same fashion. As you destroy the third web, try to make sure there are no babies (or at least as few as possible) on the screen. Once you destroy the third web, Savato will absorb whatever babies may be on the screen and then will form a protective shell around himself. Start lasering him to do damage to his shell -- it will take a while, but eventually you'll break through his barrier and be able to damage him directly. Throughout this phase, Savato will move around and make some lacerations (sometimes just one, sometimes three). Suture those quickly if possible, and keep the patient's vitals higher than you think you need them to be -- better safe than sorry. Once you get through his shield and damage him, jab him with your scalpel. He'll put up another shell, so deal with it in the same way -- with your laser. Once the new shell is gone, stab him again with your scalpel. Around this point, you'll be given a special anti-Savato serum by Victor. Laser off Savato's new shield (his third one at this point), and then inject the serum into him when you're able to. Savato will go berserk and make nine(!!!) lacerations on the patient's heart. What can we possibly do now? Derek will activate a Healing Touch automatically. However, Savato is still too fast to inject the serum into. Remember how I told you not to use your Healing Touch? Well, use it now. Derek automatically used one as part of the story, but you still have yours available. Use it and time will stop completely, allowing you to inject the serum into Savato and killing it once and for all. Give yourself a pat on the back. You've earned it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode Z-5: Sayonara [Z.05] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- assumed to be active Kyriaki bodies in the patient. Proceed as instructed. Objectives: * Expel the Kyriaki. GUILT Faced: Kyriaki, Savato (immature) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is an interesting mission, mainly in that it involves you killing a bunch of Kyriaki while keeping the blue Savato babies alive the whole time. The problem is, those blue guys lower your maximum vitals, so that obviously will make your job with the Kyriaki a whole lot tougher. Regardless, concentrate on taking out the Kyriaki as fast as possible, and suture up any excessive lacerations that make an unnecessary drain on your vitals. The Kyriaki will come faster than ever before this time around, and you'll start getting mature Kyriaki before you're even finished with the immature ones. Oh well, even in this situation you should be experienced enough with Kyriaki to be able to handle it. Use your Healing Touch if things get overwhelming. Don't damage the Savato babies -- at least, the guy tells you not to. I'm not sure if you would lose if you killed one, but I assume that you would. ----------------------------------------------------- Gregory Britt writes: "For the Z5 - Sayonara mission, I wanted to let you know that I killed 2 of the 3 baby savatos without any repercussions (though my score may have been punished a bit, but I'm not horribly concerned with that). It made the mission significantly easier, because after killing them, your max health increases significantly, so you're not always on the precipice of critical health. Anyway, just wanted to let you know, since you mentioned you didn't know what would happen if you did so." ----------------------------------------------------- With a little luck and a lot of skill, you can take down this deadly combination. Good luck! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 6-3: Relapse [6.03] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Tetarti bodies detected. Means of infection unknown and currently under investigation. Objectives: * Exterminate the Tetarti cells. GUILT Faced: Tetarti -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This strain of Tetarti is just like before, only their colors are shown much less and you'll have to increasingly rely on the colors of their poison clouds to be able to identify them. Still not very difficult, though -- identifying their colors is not very challenging to do even via this method. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 6-4: Second Opinion [6.04] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Kyriaki and Paraskevi bodies detected. Proximity to the heart necessitates vitals be monitored closely. Objectives: * Exterminate the Kyriaki. * Extract the Paraskevi. GUILT Faced: Kyriaki, Paraskevi -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyriaki and Paraskevi at the same time. Great. And to top things off, you're starting in the heart. That is, if any Paraskevi start to burrow, that's it, game over. Hope your tool-switching finger is in good shape because you're going to be doing a lot of it, using almost every tool in your arsenal for this one. First, I would recommend stunning the Paraskevi and getting them cut down to size as fast as possible. Pump your vitals whenever you need to, but make sure that you keep all of the worms stunned whenever you do. After that, focus all of your energy on keeping all of the worms locked down and stunned while you begin to extract them all. Ignore the Kyriaki for now, just raise your vitals if necessary to keep the patient among the living. Once the Paraskevi is gone, you can breathe out and relax a little. But not much. The Kyriaki are still there, after all. Take them on like normal -- but before long, more Kyriaki will arrive, in great numbers and stronger than ever before. Even the weak guys will take a few shots to kill, and the mature ones will take many. Keep an eye on those vitals, suture some lacerations if things get out of hand (and they very easily could), and don't be afraid to throw down a Healing Touch if things are beginning to fall apart! Either the Paraskevi or the Kyriaki could necessitate a HT here depending on how each GUILT decides to cooperate so don't be afraid to use it if need be. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 6-6: The Future of GUILT [6.06] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Pempti bodies detected. Some test readings do not match previously documented cases of this strain. Objectives: * Destroy the Pempti core. GUILT Faced: Pempti -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's Pempti again. Or is it? This one's much tougher, and will give you more of a headache than his predecessor. He seems to spawn mini-cores much more readily, but most of all he's only vulnerable to your laser attacks for a very short period of time -- it seems to me that it's most often when he's spawning mini-cores, but his window of vulnerability can vary slightly. Keep on top of the mini-cores, killing them before they can attack and healing any wounds that they do manage to make, and laser the core whenever you have a free moment. It'll take some work and a lot of reflexes (not to mention a quick aim) but you should be able to take this stronger form of Pempti down eventually. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 6-7: Fallen Heroes [6.07] Overview: Chiral reactions positive in multiple patients. However, it is unclear which strain(s) of GUILT is/are involved. Objectives: * Eradicate the GUILT from all four patients. GUILT Faced: Triti, Kyriaki, Deftera, Paraskevi -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This mission is tough -- each section is challenging, but none are out of the realm of possibility. I personally find Triti to be especially aggravating, but it's not particularly "difficult" in the sense that it does a lot of damage -- it will just keep regenerating forever if you're not doing it just right. Luckily I seem to have improved my form on Triti missions a little bit by following some of the excellent user-submitted strategies that you'll find elsewhere in this guide. Anyhow, the first patient is infected with Triti. Treat it just like all of the other Triti missions that you've done up to this point -- read the Triti strategy in section [G.03] if you need to. Nothing much else to say. The second patient has Kyriaki, which in my opinion is the easiest of the four operations this time around. Maybe I'm just good at dealing with the little buggers? Treat these guys just like every other Kyriaki -- if you've done the mission "Under the Knife," there should be nothing new or surprising here. You're working against the clock, though, so work as fast as you can! The third patient has Deftera, which again isn't much different from the other strains you've come across. If memory serves, you're thrown immediately into a situation with two pairs of Deftera (two red and two blue) as opposed to doing a one-pair/two-pair setup like before. That doesn't really make it any easier, but it does make the operation go quicker. Drain any opposite-color pairs that form, and shield them from the other Deftera with a circle of gel if necessary. Tumors and polyps can build up really quickly if you have like-colored Deftera colliding, so you've got to keep a really close eye on the patient's vitals. Be prepared to ignore the Deftera for a moment and either laser some of the tumors or raise vitals if necessary, because if you just focus solely on the Deftera you could find yourself dead from vitals loss really quickly. The last patient has Paraskevi, which starts in the heart again. Oh boy! No room for mistakes here. Treat this operation just like "Second Opinion," only this time the Paraskevi is in one large segment as opposed to a bunch of little ones. Using your Healing Touch in this mission is almost required as far as I'm concerned -- you'll have tons of little Paraskevi running around and if even one of them burrows into the heart, it's game over. Luckily, Angie will warn you if one is about to burrow, but unless you've got sharp eyes it can be hard to tell -which one- is trying to burrow. I just ended up quickly lasering them all in a panic -_- Anyhow, this mission is definitely a pain and a real challenge but intensely rewarding once you manage to clear it. If my strategies don't seem to work with your play style, Benny Reese has e-mailed in some of his own: ----------------------------------------------------- Benny Reese writes: "Operation 1 (Triti): Just follow Ryn's advice. Be quick and precise. Always remember to drain as fast as possible and lift the thorns up and out. Try to avoid using your Healing Touch as it's very hard to beat the third part without it. Operation 2 (Kyriaki): Follow the general guidelines to beating Kyriaki. The immature ones take 3 shots and an immature also spawns with the mature. Those are the only major changes. I'd advise to not let the lacerations build up and to suture them whenever it gets out of hand. Operation 3 (Deftera): This one can be a little hard, though having Derek's healing touch available is nice and makes it a little easier. Watch that you don't waste time draining them when they're the same color combining. Don't let the tumors build, gotta get rid of those fast. Also, whenever there's blood overtop the tumor, you have to drain the blood first, it won't let you laser otherwise. (big pain in the ass, cost me my first re-try). When you can excise the first one, use your healing touch. This should give you the time to excise and keep the patient alive. Operation 4 (Paraskevi): This one wasn't too hard and they don't really pull any new tricks out of the bag with this. Focus on keeping them all stunned at all times. Suture lacerations, then scalpel one at a time until you can start removing them. Lather Rinse Repeat." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode 6-8: Vulnerability [6.08] Overview: Chiral reaction positive -- Savato bodies detected. Its mobility will require a coordinated effort between two surgeons. Objectives: * Use the scalpel to destroy Savato's nest. * Neutralize its defensive layer with the laser. * Once the Savato is vulnerable, attack it with the scalpel. GUILT Faced: Savato (mature) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This mission is very similar to the previous Savato fight, "Death Awaits All," it's just harder across the board. He will create strands more quickly, and each strand will create significantly more babies than in your previous battle with Savato. As such, lasering the babies becomes more essential here, since it's easier for them to join together and form the larger blue immature Savato (the ones that lower your maximum vitals significantly). Your tools also all seem to degrade much faster than normal in this mission. My laser seemed to last about half as long as it did in "Death Awaits All." If your laser "breaks" and you can't use it, take advantage of that time to suture up any lacerations and raise vitals if you can. By the time you take care of those tasks, your laser should be just about ready again! So it's really not that much of an inconvenience at all. Once you get past the web-making phase, Savato doesn't seem too much harder than before. He may make lacerations more often and his cuts may spawn extra babies, but it's not a big enough difference to warrant any different strategy. Just work as fast as you can laser him with every free moment you get. Like before, if your laser breaks (and if you're lasering him as much as you should be, it will), suture and raise vitals while you're waiting for your laser to come back. If there are a lot of babies on the screen I would probably focus my attention on them before I laser Savato's shield down, but both tasks are really equally important in this case. If you don't do enough damage to Savato, you'll run up against the time limit and lose regardless, so keep lasering him as much as you can too :/ The last part of this mission works just like before. When you see the automatic HT, perform your own HT and do the serum stabbity-stab. Congratulations, you've beaten the game! The game mentions that you can load your completed save file to unlock some "extra content." They're referring to the Extreme-difficulty "X Missions." Read on for strategies on those ridiculous things. ----------------------------------------------------- Benny Reese writes: "As you suspected, another Savato fight. This one is wicked looking and is all red. He gives you a shorter window to cut the strands before making a new one with babies. Don't worry so much about the babies right before you kill the last strand, as he moves away and they just disappear. As before, save Derek's healing touch. Kishima's can be used at any time, though it's really not necessary." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode X-1: Kyriaki [X.01] Unreleased Caduceus report number 1: Concealed Blades, "Kyriaki." ~ ~ ~ Adam: "This is mankind's first sin. Man created swords to kill, and was in turn killed by swords. Don't you see? Man has always sought ways to achieve death." Kimishima: "Even still, the swords we created could also be used to create justice." Derek: "That's not true! We created many other things in order to live!" ~ ~ ~ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You thought the DS version X Missions were hard? The Wii version's X Missions are downright ridiculous by comparison. These are the ultimate challenge! And to top it all off, you'll have Adam there to provide you with insults and remarks about the futility of your efforts. What I wouldn't give for Angie's pestering right about now... Luckily, a few intrepid readers have managed to clear these missions, and have provided strategies for each one of them. Read on! One major thing to remember about the X Missions is that you can choose whether to use Derek or Kimishima for each operation. Each surgeon has their own benefits -- Derek's Healing Touch slows down time like you're used to, but Kimishima's Healing Touch doesn't really slow down time much -- but it provides a vitals boost every time you fix anything in the patient's body. ----------------------------------------------------- Micah writes: (Derek) "3rd hardest of the 7 X operations. Don't get too discouraged you get a nice break from X-2 through X-5 and then X-6 is prepared to beat you down again. As always make sure your patient is at max vitals before opening him/her up. Be holding down B and Z before the camera zooms in and as soon as it turns into a star activate your Healing Touch. Be quick and everything will go fine. Suck up all the blood close the wounds and surture everything immediately, whenever you have a chance get in a little bit of antibiotic gel or an injection of the stabalizer to keep your patients vitals up, but don't delay too long from your main goal of removing those pesky Kyriaki. The first 3 should be coming down the center of the screen from the top, tag them all with the scalpel and surture those cuts quick. Spread the antibiotic gel over the small cuts and hit all 3 with the laser before they can cause any more gashes. Try to make sure all 3 die at nearly the same time, the next 2 will spawn after 2 die from the first wave. If vitals ever look bad through any of this stick him with the stabalizer injection for a nice boost. Your Healing Touch should be wearing off about now. The next wave is 2 more Kyriaki, and your patients vitals may be looking a bit grim at this point if you didn't use the stabalizer much, but don't fret. Again cut these 2 out before they can cause any more harm, kill one quick and surture up the wounds but don't kill the second one yet. Now it's time for a little break...if you made it this far you've got the operation in the bag. Use the stabalizer injection to get the vitals back and let the last Kyriaki swim around for a bit, just be sure to surture any wounds he makes as soon as they appear. You can heal the vitals faster than this one can take them away so just be patient. Get those vitals to a safe number before continuing, I would suggest at least 70. Kill the Kyriaki and prepare for the large one with a little one tagging along. Surture all wounds first and get those 2 out before they cut anything else from the inside. Be sure to kill the small one first and use the stabalizer between rounds with the large Kyriaki. Finish him off like normal being careful of your vitals and you've got this one wrapped up." ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Tarinalas writes: "For X-1: Kyriaki (I got an A so far with both docs), the trick to winning is to suture quickly and know what triggers what. The immature Kyri take 3-4 shots with the laser each this time, but the mature is pretty much the exact same as it always is. Start out X-1 like normal. Open up the body and treat the initial lacerations. Be sure to leave one of the smaller lacerations so you can max vitals, since you'll drop to around 10-ish just fixing the gaping slashes. At this point, 3 immature Kyri will spawn and the real battle starts. IMMEDIATELY suture every slash as soon as it's made, the actual damage from the slash isn't too bad, but three slashes at once will bleed out faster than you can pump stabilizer. Kill one of the Kyri as quickly as possible, jab the other two out but don't kill them. As soon as the second of them dies two more will spawn, so fix any damage, max vitals as much as you can, then kill both of the remaining two at the same time. Once the next pair spawns you want to treat them the same way. Suture quickly, jab them both out, and try to kill them at the same time with vitals maxed. As soon as /either/ dies, the mature and one last immature will spawn. If you want to use Healing Touch, now is the time to do it. Personally, I found it to be somewhat of a waste, since the way the vitals drop you either don't need it or it's too late. Either way, stitch up all the slashes, kill the immature, then kill the mature as normal. Just remember to suture fast and stabilize if needed and the operation will be a success. By the time you're ready to do X-1 you should be able to kill a full Kyri infection in under two minutes (if you can save all 5 in Under the Knife, you are fast enough) so don't be afraid to use some of the spare 3 min to make sure you do things right." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode X-2: Deftera [X.02] Unreleased Caduceus report number 2: Creeping Tumors, "Deftera." ~ ~ ~ Adam: "Man crawls on the earth like vermin, only breeding and fighting for all eternity. Yet you dare judge them... You, who lost the ability to die." Kimishima: "No...I have to believe that all of us were born with a purpose." Derek: "What's that even supposed to mean!?" ~ ~ ~ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Micah writes: (Kimishima) "This still isn't going to be a cakewalk, but it's significantly easier than the Kyriaki. Round one is in the kidney, simple enough there's only 1 pair of Deftera, burn off the tumors and procede as you normally would with these guys. When you finish up you move up to the lunges. Again use the gel to get your patient to max vitals before opening him up here. Procede inside and have fun with 2 pairs of Deftera. This does take a bit of luck on how these move around so don't get frustrated if you have to do it a couple times. Suck out the juices of the Deftera when they pair up 2 times as normal, make sure you clear the hemoraging and tumors as they appear, nothing too hard yet after making it through the Kyriaki. However be careful with the last phase of the operation. As soon as you get a pair grouping up for the 3rd time activate your Healing Touch. When they spin the tumors start to spread like mad so you'll need it to keep the vitals going. And make sure you only do one at a time here, if you try to do both you end up killing the patient very fast. As soon as the spinning stops have your scalpel ready and be cutting the circle around the Deftera before the yellow line appears. Once cut out don't pick him up right away if your vitals are in danger, make use of that Healing Touch you just used and laser any tumors and clear out the hemoraging to stabalize your patient. With only one pair left finish up as normal and you're onto the next operation in no time!" ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Tarinalas writes: "X-2: Deftera is pretty much exactly what we have all learned to loathe about Deftera. Two locations, first one is a single pair, second one is a double. Like the Fallen Heroes Deftera, you'll have a large number of random blood pools forming, so expect to randomly fail the mission due to bad timing on those. I find things moving too quickly to even try and control with gel, but that may be why I can only get a C on it. Basically you just treat as normal and hope it works, since there's nothing 'new' save for extreme vital dropping." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode X-3: Triti [X.03] Unreleased Caduceus report number 3: Contagious Nightmare, "Triti." ~ ~ ~ Adam: "For decades, the world's governments have financed the creation of biological weapons. Airborne viruses that calcify the organs of their victims...developed for war. ...Yet those same governments are surprised when such weapons are used against them. Modern man is the very model of hypocrisy. You glorify the discovery of medicine, yet hide the fact that the same knowledge is used to create disease!" Kimishima: "...Human history is one of mistakes, but there are those of us who don't want to repeat them!" Derek: "...And you'd rather create new ways for us to die? That's insane!" ~ ~ ~ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Micah writes: (Derek) "First...I hate the Triti strain. But at the same time it's the easiest once you get used to it. The easiest way to finish this one off is to use your Healing Touch immediately and pull out all of the thorns. Then for the triangles start at the bottom and work your way up. First pull any out that have connecting sides leaving you with triangles that have tips connecting. Then work your way from the outside in and grab the rest of them. That's about it, I finished this operation in about 30 seconds. In all honestly, make one mistake and you may as well start over. Don't want to make it any harder on yourself than it needs to be." ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Tarinalas writes: "X-3: Triti is a completely new pattern, it looks surprisingly simple, but after Deftera my hands were shaking too much to continue. It may get a lot worse than it seems and I just don't know, all I can really confirm is that it zaps the organ roughly every 5-6 seconds, so you don't have the same "I can completely ignore the vitals" luxary that you did with the other Triti missions unless you are insanely fast." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode X-4: Tetarti [X.04] Unreleased Caduceus report number 4: Synchronized Venom, "Tetarti." ~ ~ ~ Adam: "Nature mandates that mankind will eventually succumb to poison. However, humans created their own poison, called medicine. It's delusion to believe you can toxify nature to avoid your fate." Kimishima: "Your poison isn't natural OR medicinal; it's madness!" Derek: "No...it's delusional to dismiss peoples' deaths as 'fate.'" ~ ~ ~ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Micah writes: (Derek or Kimishima) "Not any different than the other strains of Tetarti that you've delt with, just be quick with it. They hurt your vitals a bit more than normal and towards the end will burrow back in pretty quick. Just treat them as the normal strain and when they burrow back in take out your gel and apply as much as you can. Before they reveal themselves again have a syringe ready with whatever color you want to do first (I always did Yellow first since it was the bottle on the left). After the 4th or 5th wave, depending on how your vitals are looking, use your gel again and then use your Healing Touch as they reveal themselves. You should be able to get in 2 rounds with the Healing Touch but that is enough to get the vitals looking decent with over use of the gel. Continue on and you'll make your way to the next strain." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode X-5: Pempti [X.05] Unreleased Caduceus report number 5: Armored Bacteria, "Pempti." ~ ~ ~ Adam: "Mankind's greed has no ending... You continue to consume until even your host is laid waste. Is survival that important? ...So important you would trade it for the earth's destruction?" Kimishima: "Even if greed does motivate some men, it can never overshadow the compassion of others!" Derek: "If people as a whole are consuming too much then maybe that's another disease we need to cure...but we can cure it!" ~ ~ ~ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Micah writes: (Derek or Kimishima) "No Healing Touch is really needed here, but if you want to take it safe play as Kishima for the vitals boost. Treat this just like any other Pempti operation. Send in the nano machines until the core comes out to play. Then hold down A to fire the laser and don't let go until you're done(almost). Keep the laser on the core, and make sure to kill everything you can, the only one really acceptable to let through would be the little blue tumor causing guys. By holding the laser between the pair on either side you should be able to kill 2 at once, then kill the middle one. If the remaining 2 on the other side get set loose for a run don't sweat it, follow with the laser and burn the tumors as they are formed. Be quick with your gel and patch up the holes before they get back to the core and then finish them off before returning the laser to the core itself. Repeat until you finish up if things look bad use the Healing Touch and get your vitals back. Very straight forward and as mentioned above if you follow through like this you won't need the HT." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode X-6: Paraskevi [X.06] Unreleased Caduceus report number 6: Arrow to the Heart, "Paraskevi." ~ ~ ~ Adam: "In young forests at the dawn of time, plants were born with the ability to kill humans. ...such simple, perfect organisms. Do you understand the meaning of such toxic flora? They demonstrate that all creation seeks an end to mankind." Kimishima: "Your old world, steeped in death, perished at the dawning of civilization!" Derek: "If humans are to be judged...it won't be at the hands of other men!" ~ ~ ~ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Micah writes: (Derek or Kimishima) "Here we work just like on a regular Paraskevi operation, half at a time and don't worry about the other half burrowing it's way into the deeper organs. Freeze the first one and split him in 2, surture the wounds and then use the stabalizer to recover the vitals back to 45-50. Focus on just one half this time and let the other burrow in, no worries. Cut it in 2, surture the wounds, and use the stabalizer again, now make sure to keep both of these frozen. Cut one and gather the single sections up while keeping everything frozen. Surture, stabalizer, and repeat until you finish, if too much burrows no worries, a perfect run with this strategy finishes in the 2nd organ so you've got 2 more to fall back on." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Episode X-7: Savato [X.07] Unreleased Caduceus report number 7: Faceoff with Death, "Savato." ~ ~ ~ Adam: "My beautiful, perfect image of death itself...which I have deemed Savato. But...what if I told you this death existed inherently inside all human DNA? ...I merely gave it the chance to take shape. This is the death you have denied. ...Our guide to the truth." Kimishima: "If it's death you want, I'll be sure to give it to you!" Derek: "Even if what you're saying is true, Savato remained dormant. We found a way to overcome Death -- that was humanity's choice!" ~ ~ ~ Adam: "Your skills have given birth to many lives which never should have been. ...They are your GUILT..." ~ ~ ~ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------- Micah writes: (using Derek) "Still not easy, but it's now doable. I'll put this into 2 sections, how to deal with the webs, and how to deal with the shell. First off you're stuck dealing with Savato's webs 3 times as always. The big difference between this fight with Savato and the previous is that if you don't remove a piece of web immediately it will pulse red and vibrate, causing vitals to drop 30 or so points. Get used to the timing on your scalpel and this is no problem, just be using it as it's timer is about to end, this will actually start the cut a moment before the icon turns back to white which can be useful. Make sure to laser any of the small bugs as they form from new webs between scalpel uses. Quite a lot more form from each web and you don't want them forming into the blue bugs that hit your vitals hard. Use the antibiotic gel in small doses as you can to keep the vitals looking good, it's a lot faster than the stabalizer though not as affective, but works better for the small windows you have to use it. Repeat 3 times, no new tricks between each set. Now we're onto Savato running around with his shell. Just make sure your laser doesn't run out, use it in bursts and while you let it cool down use the stabalizer injection or surture any wounds that are present. If he creates a slit and bugs crawl out laser them in the large group before they start walking around. This will make life much easier. Keep the laser on Savato's nose as much as you can and keep this up. Keep the vitals above 30, even if you have to ignore Savato for a moment and just spam the stabalizer to do it, but don't ignore surturing wounds or killing bugs. Do this 3 times and you'll be set, no new tricks so nothing to worry about if you can keep up with this. After the 3rd time Savato falls to the ground and waits for the injection of anti-Savato serum. Use the stabalizer injection and max out those vitals so your patient will survive the last step. Again nothing new, as soon as the HT gets auto used, use Dereks and stop time. Do the last injection and you're on your way to victory." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ending [E.ND] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Adam: "As it is written in Revelations 9:6. 'During those days men will seek death, but will not find it -- they will long to die, but death will elude them.' Just as the prophecy states, I have set a plague upon mankind to torment those who have betrayed natural law. ...At the end of all life, I alone will stand as an angel before the gaping abyss... I, who have become the great destroyer Apollyon! ...Your medicine is deceit, and you are nothing but a false prophet..." "Derek Stiles and Naomi Kimishima overcame Adam's ordeals and triumphed over GUILT. But, what does the future hold for these two gifted surgeons...?" "Congratulations! You've completed the most difficult surgeries ever devised. However, remember that you're not actually a doctor, so you shouldn't perform surgery in real life. ...Unless, of course, you are a doctor. In which case, we would advise you not to tell your patients how many tries it took you to complete a game about surgery." ================================================================================ + + + + + G U I L T S T R A T E G I E S + + + + + ================================================================================ Having trouble with a particular GUILT? You've come to the right place. Here I'll offer some tips, pointers, and reminders to help keep your patients alive and the GUILT dead. I don't claim to be any kind of authoritative source on this, since I haven't beaten the game on Hard mode yet like I'm sure some of you have. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyriaki [G.01] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kyriaki, like some other GUILT, comes in two flavors: immature and mature. The immature Kyriaki only take one or two bursts from your laser to kill, and once you cut them out of the organ they stay visible for good. The mature Kyriaki make three large lacerations in the shape of a star when they come onto the screen, and they take more hits to kill with the laser. They also disappear back under the surface of the organ once you damage them -- you have to cut them out with the scalpel before each time you shoot them. An overview of a typical immature Kyriaki encounter typically goes like this: * Patient has large lacerations and gashes. * Once the lacerations are all fixed, the Kyriaki will form a new laceration. * At this point, you can use the ultrasound to see the Kyriaki swimming under the surface of the organ. * Use your scalpel to make a small cut on top of the Kyriaki while it swims around; if you do it right, the Kyriaki will be exposed and will move around on the surface of the organ. * Shoot it with your laser! You may have to do this more than once. * Defeat! Mature Kyriaki encounters are much the same: * At some point during an encounter with immature Kyriaki (sometimes after they're all dead, sometimes during the middle of it), three large lacerations will be formed in the shape of a star. * Use the ultrasound to find the large Kyriaki swimming under the surface of the organ. * Use your scalpel to expose it, just like with the immature ones. * Shoot it with the laser, at which point it will go back under the surface of the organ and you'll have to repeat these steps a few times until it dies. * Defeat! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deftera [G.02] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These guys look exactly like fantail goldfish. Why? Don't ask me, I don't work for Atlus. Anyhow, Deftera come in pairs: one red, one blue. The basic idea is that once a red and a blue come into contact with each other, they start trying to eat each other, at which point you can use your drain to damage them. Do this a few times and they'll stop moving so you can extract them with your forceps. Easy. Oh, wait, there's more? Yeah, the challenging part comes when you have more than two Deftera floating around. If two like-colored Deftera touch, Bad Things Happen. If a Deftera bumps into two that are already connected, Bad Things Happen. Bad Things meaning vitals loss and the possibility of polyps/tumors being formed that you'll have to laser away. You can help avoid this, however, by using the antibiotic gel to form a protective barrier of sorts around a pair that you're trying to drain. It doesn't work perfectly, but it does a decent job of repelling the other ones until you can finish your draining business. There are also various polyps that will be present during Deftera operations -- treat those like normal by lasering them off and then gelling the burn marks. No big deal, really. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Triti [G.03] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Triti pisses a lot of people off, and with good reason. If you don't have a good strategy (or you have bad luck) you can find yourself overwhelmed very quickly with these guys. Triti is basically a collection of triangles with thorns at their corners, laid out kind of like this: _____ * * / \ / \ / \ / \ *_____*_____* ...only much bigger. Basically, you have to remove all of the thorns surrounding a triangle piece before you can take that piece out. The problem comes when thorns and triangles can be regenerated or outright created anew, and is compounded by the fact that some of the thorns will dissolve into toxic mist in some missions that you must suck up with the drain or risk failure. I'm not any sort of pro with this game, so I still have issues with Triti. But, as I outlined in the mission overviews for Triti, the basic pointers that I see mentioned most commonly are: * Triti will spread in places where there are multiple thorns adjacent to each other, so, try to pull out thorns so that there are gaps between all of them. Oh yeah. If a thorn vaporizes it WILL slow you down a bit but just keep your concentration, drain the fumes, and continue extracting." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tetarti [G.04] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The basic idea between Tetarti encounters can be summed up in three words: "remember the colors." Tetarti come in three colors -- green, yellow, and purple. Inject all three with the matching colored serum and they'll all take a little bit of damage. Do this a few times and they'll all die! Simple enough, right? Things get a little more complicated later on when the Tetarti show their colors less often, but they can still be fairly easily identified by the color of the poison that they emit, which matches their serum color. Not too much to them, really, you just need quick eyes and a good memory. If you inject the wrong one, some diverticula may be formed, but they're not a big threat. Just inject some serum into the diverticula and they won't cause you too much trouble. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pempti [G.05] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pempti is the first GUILT that really takes on the form of a "boss" fight. It's a major undertaking to take one of these bad boys down, and you'll feel a sense of accomplishment when you manage to do it. First off, you'll need to inject the nanomachine (the orange serum) into the Pempti's body to shrink it. Do this a few times and then the core will become visible. The core can and will spawn two different kinds of "mini-cores": * Pink mini-cores, which will fly to the top of the screen and create large lacerations. * Blue mini-cores, which will fly to the top of the screen all at once and create polyps, also popping any polyps that may already have been there, dealing some moderate damage. Basically, you don't want any of those flying around. The pink ones are a more immediate threat, but the blue ones can kill you quickly as well if you let a lot of tumors get created. Killing the mini-cores should be your top priority in any Pempti battle. After that, raise the patient's vitals if necessary and then laser the core. Laser it as much as you can because it can take a LOT of hits and it isn't vulnerable 100% of the time either. Once it finally takes enough damage, it will finally give up the ghost, but not after giving you one hell of a struggle. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paraskevi [G.06] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paraskevi isn't your typical GUILT. It's exceedingly deadly, but in a different way. The first time you encounter Paraskevi there will be four "zones," before it reaches the patient's heart, but you won't always have this luxury. If the Paraskevi reaches the heart and burrows in, the patient instantly dies and it's game over, so don't let that happen, okay? Paraskevi is too big to extract -- you will have to cut it down into many smaller pieces and extract them one by one. Start by cutting it in half, then cutting each of those pieces in half, then those in half, etc. Eventually you will be able to extract the smallest pieces. You can stun Paraskevi by lasering its tail. If you're playing in a scenario where the Paraskevi *starts* in the heart, make absolutely sure that you keep all of the pieces stunned at all times. You cannot afford to let those guys roam free, because at any time they could start burrowing and then it's game over for you and your patient. ----------------------------------------------------- Ryn writes: "Ok to beat Paraskevi easily randomly laser at the screen and if you stun something cut it immediately until you have 16 little worms flying around.........NO! That is a sure way to incur DEATH. To beat paraskevi properly, just follow my step by step instructions. I will label the paraskevi based on how many "bodies" they have left, so if it is a 4, then when you cut it it will become 2 "2s": 1) Stun the 16 (uh..........duh?) 2) Cut 3) Stun both 8s 4) Cut ONE worm only 5) Stun the 8 and the two "4s" 6) Novice: Cut ONE 4 only, Expert: Cut both 4s At this point Novice should have 4 worms on screen and Expert should have 5. 7) Stun all worms on screen 8) Novice: Cut both 2s and then stun + extract accordingly, Expert: Cut two of the 2s and stun + extract accordingly At this point Novice should have a 4 and an 8 and Expert should have an 8 and two 2s 9) Novice: Repeat steps 6 - 8, Expert: Repeat step 8 At this point both should have only the other 8 left 10) Repeat steps 3 - 9 And you're done. With a little concentration and know-how you can beat Paraskevi without resorting to your HT." ----------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Savato [G.07] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Savato fight is so heavily scripted that not much can be said in "general" terms about it, so I'm just going to restate what I wrote for the Death Awaits All mission guide: Before we go any further, I'm going to say this clearly and obviously: DO NOT USE YOUR HEALING TOUCH. ================================================================================ + + + + + C R E D I T S / L E G A L + + + + + ================================================================================ This FAQ is copyright (c)2006 Aaron Ramsey.
